Cut down a sheet of black Bazzill paper to make a square with the dimensions 13 x 13 cm. Dilute a small amount of gesso with some water in a pot. Dip the tip of the paintbrush in the gesso mixture and splash some droplets randomly all over your black paper by scraping the brush against the edge of the pot.

Next take a water-soluble crayon in a light colour (I chose pink) and a water brush. Add more fine splashes to the page, as you did with the gesso mixture, although this time you can tap your brush against the edge of the crayon that you’re are using.

Add a few drops of gold ink by lifting the pipette out of the bottle and gently shaking it above the paper.

Next you will stamp an image onto a piece of white Bazzill paper using watercolour paint. The stamp I used depicted an origami-style stag’s head.

Choose the colours that you want to use and start with a thin layer of watercolour over the whole of the stamp. Think about adding some shadow to the image; to do this start with a lighter layer of colour and then add an area of a darker shade to one side of the stamp to create an impression of gently contrasting light and shadow. Think creatively about your colours and how they work together.

Cut out your coloured stamp, going very carefully around the edges.

When the black background that you made earlier is dry back it with some white Bazzill paper and some patterned paper to create contrasting borders.

Glue your cut out stamp in the middle of your card.

Lastly attach your embellishments, which will add interesting detail to your card. Add an assortment of wooden stars, enamel dots and sequins in a diagonal sweep across the card. Finish off with a strip of masking tape and a length of white and gold twine tied in a big knot to add some volume to the front of the card.
