Materials

A large photo printed onto a sheet of A4 paper
2 different sheets of patterned paper, one of which will be used as the background
A roll of golden glittered tape or ribbon
Black ink (such as Archival Ink) to stamp on your photo
Water soluble wax pastels (such as Caran D’ache Neocolor II) to use with ink stamps. (Alternatively you could use any water-based pigments, but the Neocolors produce a chalky look which works well for this project.)
Embellishments (Choose ones which will work well together, such as wooden shapes, enamel dots, puffy stickers, die-cut shapes such as flowers, branches and triangles.)

Gesso (sufficiently diluted to make droplets)
Gold spray paint
Adhesive letters (to make the title)
Water brush

Hello everyone! I am really delighted to be back with another tutorial for you. This time I’m going to show you how to make a layout which is pretty but also good use of graphic elements. It’s a page with a large part given over to the one element which is the mainstay of scrapbooking creations: the photo!

Start off by positioning your photo on your background paper in order to decide where it will go. Do not glue it down yet but make some light marks to show its place and set the photo aside. The photo should be positioned low down on the page, but not coming right up to the edge, so that there is a border of patterned paper visible on all sides. Stick a border to the top of your page, which you should cut out from a different sheet of patterned paper. The dimensions of this border should be 28 x 8 cm.

Fold over the top right corner of your border and staple it down. Leave a slight gap between this top section and the space where you will stick your photo so that you will be able to stick in a strip of golden glittered tape or ribbon. You can put some sticky foam pads in this space now so that it will be ready to stick in the tape later. Put this background to one side.

Je suis ravie de vous retrouver encore une fois ! Cette fois-ci je vous propose de réaliser une page à la fois graphique & douce. Une page qui laisse une part belle à ce qui est l’essence même de toute création de scrapbooking : la photo !

Pour commencer placez votre photo sans la coller sur votre papier de fond, afin de prendre des repères. Votre photo sera placée en bas de votre papier de fond, laissez un bord tout autour pour que l’on distingue le papier de fond. Sur le haut collez une bande découpée dans le deuxième papier, de dimension 28x8cm de largeur.

Faites un coin dans le bord supérieur droit et agrafez-le. Laissez un espace entre les deux papiers pour coller la fine bande de masking-tape glitter or. Vous pouvez d’ores et déjà placer des carrés de mousse 3d sur cet espace où viendra se placer la bande dorée. Laissez cet ensemble de côté.

Next you will focus on decorating your photo. You will need to use some ink stamps with a flower motif. It will be easier to colour these in if you choose a design with some blank spaces.

Nous allons maintenant nous occuper de la photo. Pour se faire, prenez des tampons fleurs, idéalement facile à coloriser (donc avec des espaces creux dans le design).

Stamp your flower motifs at the top of your photo, using a water resistant ink, such as Archival Ink or Stazon ink.

Sur le haut de votre photo, tamponnez les motifs floraux avec une encre noire résistante à l’eau type Archival Ink. Vous pouvez utiliser aussi de l’encre Stazon.

Start filling in the flowers with a light pink colour, using a water brush and wax pastels, such as Caran D’ache Neocolor II. Make brushstrokes in an outward direction starting at the centre of the flower. Don’t take your brushstrokes right to the ends of the petals, but rather leave a white margin to create more of a sense of visual impact. Do the same for each of the flowers.

A l’aide d’un Neocolor 2 rose clair et d’un pinceau à réservoir d’eau, commencez à coloriser l’intérieur de vos fleurs. Partez du centre de la fleur pour aller vers l’extérieur. Laissez une petite marge de blanc pour donner du relief. Faites de même pour chaque intérieur de fleur.

Next use a bolder red colour and repeat the process, starting your brushstrokes at the centre and moving outwards, but this time do not take you brush as far, so that you do not entirely cover up the pink section and you are left with a bolder red centre edged with the paler pink. Follow a similar process for the leaves, starting with a light green then placing a smaller area of a darker ochre colour on top. Use a fine-tipped paintbrush to add some small touches of colour to the pistils of the flowers, which will give some finesse to this section.

Tip: If you haven’t got Neocolors II to colour in the stamps of flowers then use watercolour paints. Dilute these a little and you will create a similar effect, albeit without the attractive slightly chalky look that you can get with Neocolors.

Prenez ensuite un rouge plus soutenu et repartez de l’intérieur de chaque fleur en prenant garde cette fois à remonter moins haut vers l’extérieur pour laisser la couleur rose posée précédemment apparaître.

Procédez de la même manière avec les feuillages en utilisant un vert clair puis un ocre. Vous pouvez ajouter des petits points réalisés au pinceau sur les pistils de la fleur pour amener de la finesse à vos motifs.

Astuce : si vous n’avez pas de Neocolors 2 pour coloriser vos tamponnages, vous pouvez utiliser de l’aquarelle peu diluée. Le résultat sera sensiblement le même, exception faite de l’aspect « craie » apporté par l’utilisation des Neocolors…

Finish off this section with a scattering of small dots of light mauve or lilac colour, made with a fine-tipped paintbrush.

Finalisez votre colorisation en ajoutant quelques petites touches de ci de là de couleur mauve clair…

Now it’s time to stick your photo onto your background page and then stick on the band of gold tape to cover the slight gap you have left between the photo and the section of patterned paper at the top of your page. Stick on some small triangles cut out of black paper and wooden triangular decorations. The overall composition of the elements on the page follows an imaginary line from the top right to the bottom left.

Collez votre photo sur l’ensemble réalisé précédemment et placez également la bande de masking-tape. Ajoutez des petites découpes triangles coupées dans un papier noir et des éléments bois de rappel. Le tout étant organisé sur une diagonale imaginaire de la page : coin supérieur droit/ coin inférieur gauche.

Add some final embellishments to give some finishing touches to your page. Cut off the top sections of two parcel tags and arrange them so that they are peeping out from behind the golden band of tape. You can tie some thin twine to one of the eyelets of the tags. Add your title; you can mix up styles for a more interesting effect. I used a mix of individual letters stuck on and some cut out sections of text made with clear stamps. Add some enamel dots, following your colour scheme, as well as some cut-outs of leaf shapes.

Pour terminer, organisez vos embellissements pour peaufiner votre page. Placez deux tags qui se chevauchent juste au-dessus de la bande de masking tape. Ajoutez votre titre en jouant avec les typographies (ici j’ai mixé alphabet et tampon clear), des enamel dots dans les tons de votre réa, ainsi que des découpes feuillages.

The final step to finish off your page is to add a few little drops of white gesso. Take a small pot containing your gesso, diluted with a little water, and a paintbrush with hard bristles. Dip the tip of the brush into the gesso mixture and carefully flick the drops from the brush onto the page by gently rubbing or tapping the brush against the edge of the pot. You can also add a few drops of gold spray ink to put some more light onto the page. Leave it to dry naturally.

Congratulations, you page is finished! Now stand back and admire your work, and don’t forget to share it with the rest of the AALL & Create fanatics and show it off!

Mettez le point final à votre réalisation en ajoutant des petites taches de Gesso dilué. Prenez un récipient avec un fond de Gesso additionné d’eau. Propulsez les gouttelettes de Gesso en vous aidant du bord du récipient et d’un pinceau à poils durs que vous frotterez contre le verre.Ajoutez également quelques gouttes d’encre en spray doré pour apporter de la lumière à votre projet. Laissez sécher à l’air libre.
