Materials

White cardstock, cut into a square measuring 12 x 12cm
Water soluble inks (I used Izink Aladine dye ink pads)
A large stamp of a butterfly
A stamp with text on
Black waterproof ink (e.g. Archival Ink)
Water soluble wax pastels (such as Caran D’ache Neocolor II)
Gesso (diluted with a little water in a pot) and a paintbrush
Embellishments to match your design scheme

Matériel utilisé :

1 carré 12x12 cm découpé dans un cardstock blanc
Des encres diluables, ici jai utilisé les encreurs Dye Izink Aladine
Un grand tampon papillon
Un tampon texte texture
1 encre noire résistante à l’eau type Archival Ink
Des Neocolors 2 ou aquarelle pour coloriser le tampon
Du Gesso dilué dans un gobelet + 1 pinceau

Gaga’s ‘You Are My Star’ Card

Hello everyone!

It’s Gaelle here again. This time I’m here to show you a project which makes good use of colours and some graphic design elements. Let’s get started!

Press the yellow inkpad onto a sheet of plastic or acetate and add a few drops of water, then press your square of cardstock on top to transfer the ink. Bear in mind that you can tweak the shape of your inkblots by using a piece of kitchen paper to alter the shape on your plastic sheet before you press on the cardstock.

C’est encore moi Gaëlle, on se retrouve aujourd’hui pour réaliser une carte placée sous le signe de la couleur et du graphisme… C’est parti !

Sur un plastique de récup’ commencez à tamponner l’encreur jaune puis ajoutez un peu d’eau. Retournez votre carré de cardstock dessus. N’oubliez pas que vous pouvez « orienter » votre tâche en l’affinant avec un papier absorbant directement sur le plastique avant de transférer la matière sur votre cardstock.

Repeat the process with the green ink then allow the square to dry naturally so that you don’t lose any of the nuances of the shapes you have made.

Faites de même avec la couleur verte. Puis laissez sécher à l’air libre pour garder toutes les nuances à votre tâche.

Using the same colours, add some lines of fine text with an ink stamp. Don’t make these too uniform and regular, instead put them on so that they are just slightly uneven.

Avec les mêmes couleurs, tamponnez de manière inégale un motif texte fin.

Next take the large ink stamp of a butterfly and stamp half of it onto the card using black ink. This should be a waterproof ink so that it won’t smudge when you colour it in with watercolour paint.

Prenez ensuite le gros papillon et tamponnez le pour moitié avec une encre noire résistante à l’eau (important pour pouvoir coloriser l’intérieur avec l’aquarelle ensuite !)

Now add the colour to your butterfly, always starting with a larger area of a lighter shade of colour then putting a smaller area of darker colour on top to create a more complex and eye-catching effect. You can bring some of these colours out onto the rest of your page by adding some drops or little splatters from a paintbrush. To do this, soak the tip of a paintbrush in the watercolour paint you are using and flick it gently and carefully over the areas of your work where you want it to go. Make sure that you protect any areas that you do not want the paint to go.

Ajoutez de la couleur sur votre motif papillon, commencez toujours par les couleurs claires sur la plus grande surface puis apportez de la profondeur en plus petites touches avec le foncé. Vous pouvez créer une continuité dans votre travail en ajoutant quelques gouttelettes au pinceau. Pour cela, prenez un pinceau bien imbibé de couleur aquarellée et procédez par « à-coups » au-dessus de votre travail. Prenez garde à protéger les parties de votre création que vous ne souhaitez pas altérer.

Add your title stamped on in black ink. Here’s a useful tip for what to do if you realise that you have not stamped your title totally straight on the card: underline your stamp with two lines of grey pencil, taking care to bring the lines up a little on the side which tilts down in order to create a sort of optical illusion, for example, if your stamp tilts down a little towards the right draw two parallel lines of grey pencil underneath it angling them slightly so that they go up a little on the right-hand side to reduce the downward tilting side of your stamp.

Ajoutez un titre tamponné en noir. Petite astuce si vous vous apercevez que vous avez un peu tamponné votre phrase de travers : soulignez votre tamponnage avec un double-trait au crayon gris en prenant soin de remonter un peu à l’opposé du côté qui penche pour créer une sorte d’illusion d’optique. Exemple : si votre tamponnage descend vers la droite, tracez deux bandes parallèles au crayon gris qui remontent légèrement vers le haut à droite pour diminuer le côté « penché » de votre tamponnage.

All that is left to do is add some little embellishments to complement the design. I wanted to have several embellishments lined up around a label just underneath the title. Then I added some little enamel dots and drops of white gesso here and there to finish off the card. Don’t forget to outline your white card with a black pen in order to frame your creation and make it stand out from the background it is mounted on.

Il ne vous reste plus qu’à ajouter des petits embellissements coordonnés. Ici j’ai souhaité articuler une petite ligne d’embellissements autour d’un label placé et collé juste en-dessous du titre. Puis j’ai ajouté çà et là des petites enamels dots et des taches de Gesso pour finaliser mon travail. N’oubliez pas de tracer un contour noir autour de votre carte lorsqu’elle est de couleur claire pour « cadrer » votre création.
