          Autour de Mwa’s Mini Album

Materials:

​

• A4 format painting canvas or a piece of thick fabric

• Watercolour paper

• Quick-drying ink (e.g. Izink Dye)

• Oxide Distress Ink (Ranger)

• Rub-on transfers (Jane Davenport) or you could replace this with ink stamps

• Stencil (AALL & Create No. 5 by Carol & Co)

• Ink applicator

• Watercolour pencils (or water-based inks)

• Water brush (or watercolour brush)

• Stencil (AALL & Create No. 5 by Jasmina)

• Embellishments (Ephemeria, Freckled Fawn, Tim Holtz)

• String or ribbon

• Liquid ink (black and white) or diluted gesso

• Cameo cut-outs

• Spare sheets of paper

• Glue, double-sided sticky tape, sticky foam pads

• Stapler and staples

• Journaling tags

• Additional embellishments to your taste

• Screen printing screen

• Acrylic paint

• Paint spatula

Instructions

Making the cover

1. Place some Izink Dye ink onto a section of acetate sheet, spritz with a little water and mix the two together with your finger or with a paintbrush.

2. Transfer the ink to your cover page by pressing the acetate against it, as shown in the video.

3. Repeat this step several times until you have the desired effect.

4. Leave the page until it has thoroughly dried.

5. Autour de Mwa used a rub-on transfer by Jane Davenport for the image of the woman on the cover. You could substitute this with a suitable cut out ink stamp or photo.

6. Create your embellishments: Autour de Mwa used used a flower motif stencil (AALL & Create no. 5) to make some flowers to add to the page, applying ink over the stencil on a sheet of paper using an ink applicator or foam pad such as a Cut’N’Dry pad.

7. Assemble the flowers around the transfer and use glue or the stapler to fix everything in place on your cover.

8. Place some additional embellishments around the flowers, such as enamel dots, cut-outs, ink stamps, labels etc.

9. Finish off your cover with a few dots of splashes of black and white ink or gesso.

Interior

You can put what you like on your inside pages. Autour de Mwa shows several examples on the video, but there are lots of others you could think of.

1. Autour de Mwa started by making some flower embellishments with a silkscreen and some Dina Wakley acrylic paint, but you could use a normal stencil, as on the cover. If you do use a silkscreen then don’t forget to wash it as soon as you have finished using it.

2. Next, add some some Izink Dye ink to a section of acetate sheet, spritz with a little water and mix the two together with your finger or with a paintbrush. Press the piece of acetate onto your interior pages, to transfer the ink, as shown in the video. Repeat this action for each of your inside pages until you have decorated them all with different shapes and patterns of ink. Leave these to dry naturally.

3. Use glue to stick down your photos along with your flowers and your other chosen embellishments, such as enamel dots, cut-outs, ink stamps, labels etc. Then finish off with a few splashes of liquid ink.

4. Prepare the rest of your pages in the same way. Autour de Mwa worked most of the pages by adding rub-on transfers, adding some texture with modelling paste over stencils and using silk screen printing. Also on one of the pages he transferred a photo onto the background using gel medium before applying ink on top. (See video no. 2)

Final Assembly of the album

1. Fold your internal pages in half and glue them back to back using double-sided sticky tape.

2. Reinforce the cover of your album with a strong piece of card.

3. Place your mini album inside the cover.

  • Pochoir de serigraphie (screen printing)

La couverture:

​

  1. Appliquer l’encre Izink Dye sur le morceau de rhodoïd, pschiter de l’eau dessus et mélanger les deux avec le doigt ou un pinceau.

  2. Retourner le morceau de plastique sur la page comme montré sur la vidéo

  3. Répéter l’opération plusieurs fois s’il faut.

  4. Laisser bien sécher.

  5. Pour la dame sur la couverture, Autour de Mwa a utilisé un Rub-on de Jane Davenport, vous pouvez le remplacer pas un tampon ou une photo d’une personne detourée.

  6. Créer vos embellissements: sur des chutes de papiers et avec un applicateur d’encre (ou un morceau de cut’n’dry) Autour de mwa a appliqué de l’encre à travers un pochoir motif fleurs (pochoir AALL&Create #5 ici) pour faire ses fleurs.

  7. Superposer vos fleurs au dessous du rub-on et fixer-les avec une agrafeuse ou de la colle sur votre sur votre couv.

  8. Ajouter quelques embellissements autour de ces fleurs (découpes, enamel dots, tampons, étiquettes…)

  9. Et finir par quelques taches d’encre liquide blanche et noire.

 

L’interieur:

 

Pour les pages d’interieur vous pouvez en faire au tant que vous voulez, sur la video Autour de Mwa a montré quelques examples mais vous pouvez en faire beaucoup plus.

 

  1. Autour de Mwa a commencé par créer les embellissements (les fleurs) avec un pochoir de sérigraphie et de la peinture acrylique Dina Wakley mais vous pouvez utiliser un simple pochoir aussi (comme pour la couverture).
    PS: Si vous utilisez un pochoir de sérigraphie, n’oubliez pas de le nettoyer rapidement juste apres utilisation.

  2. Ensuite, appliquer l’encre Izink Dye sur un morceau de rhodoïd, pschiter de l’eau dessus et mélanger les deux avec le doigt ou un pinceau. Retourner le morceau de plastique sur vos pages d’interieur comme montré sur la video. Répéter l’opération plusieurs fois et essayer d’avoir differentes grosses taches sur chaque page. Laisser bien sécher naturellement.

  3. Superposer votre photo et les fleurs et fixer-les avec de la colle, Ajouter quelques embellissements autour de votre photo (découpes, enamel dots, tampons détourés, étiquettes…) et finir par quelques taches d’encre liquid.

  4. Préparer vos pages de la même façon, sauf sur quelques pages Autour de Mwa a rajouté des rub-ons, de la pate a structure a travers des pochoirs et de la sérigraphie… et sur une des pages il a transferé une photo sur son fond avec du gel medium avant d’appliquer l’encre (regarder la video #2)

 

 

Assemblage final de l’album :

 

  1. Plier vos pages di’nterieur en 2 et les coller dos a dos avec du scotch double face

  2. Renforcez le dos de votre couverture avec un carton bien rigide

  3. Glisser le mini a l’interieur de votre couverture
